The Exodus is the oldest freedom story we have, and it does not end at the sea. The Israelites walk out of Egypt and then spend the rest of the story learning what to do with the freedom they were given.
That is the distinction the Hebrew Bible keeps returning to. Freedom from something is the beginning. Freedom for something is the point.
